What were the British planning to do that prompted Paul Revere to start his famous ride?
Q. Why were the colonists (British Citizens) worried when the British Army (which had been protecting them for years) decided to take a little stroll in the country?

A. I believe some of it was related to a British plan to seize colonial firearms. The British knew that if the colonists had their guns taken away, they couldn't rebel against the British government. This was one of the major reasons the 2nd amendment was added.

How is the American Revolution taught in British schools?
Q. I've always wondered how it was taught (is it even called that in Britain?) in British schools because here in the states, the British were seen as harsh oppressors of democracy and freedom...how were the Americans viewed as? Was Benedict Arnold seen as a British hero?

A. from my experience, we're not taught about it. its definately not taught at primary school (5-11) and in the 3 years of high school when history is compulsary, we aren't taught it either. i am taking history for my GSCE's, and its not part of the course. maybe it varies on the school, but i doubt it, and my school is pretty good anyways. britain has a much longer history than america, and we first and foremost get taught about british history (save for ancient civilisations such as the egyptians.) after that, we're taught about thiings that influenced our country more, such as the world wars (so life of hitler, etc.) i dont know anything about the american revolution, but im gonna guess that it didnt have much effect on british history?… [cont.]

A. You have some good answers. I found the the following report useful, as it states the 1989 House of Common's unanimous resolution to seek to achieve the goal of eliminating poverty among Canadian children by the year 2000", and goes on to explain shortfalls and recommendations. 2009 Report Card on Child and Family Poverty in Canada 1989-2009 On page 3 of the report, Chart 2: Child Poverty in Canada and Provinces, 2007 clearly shows BC with the highest child poverty rate. New Brunswick, my province, at 16.7% is very close behind British Columbia at 18.8%. Sadly, despite poverty reduction strategies (at least in NB), many children and families are not assisted by these programs. I'm certain the situation is the same in BC; but, as… [cont.]
