A. It will be in your bank account on Wednesday, as long as unemployment doesn't have any problems. I make my claims on Sunday as well.

What number can I call to reach the PA unemployment offices that won't give me a busy signal?
Q. I've been trying to call the unemployment offices all morning, but it's been busy! I tried 2 different numbers. Is there a trick to this? Also, concerning unemployment, can I work part time while I collect? Is there a max amount I can make before I find something full time? How about if I get a job that is commission based and I won't get a paycheck for 2-3 months? Can I continue to collect until I get my first paycheck?

A. Trying to call those PA numbers is utter misery. Call at 7:00 am on any morning other than Monday. Or just keep dialing over and over until you luck out and get through. It's easier to get through on the non-toll-free numbers, especially the ones not near Philadelphia. Really, there's nothing you can do except dial over and over again. Yes, you can work part-time while collecting unemployment. You can earn up to 40% of your unemployment amount without it affecting your check at all. Amounts over that will be deducted from your check, but if you reach the end of your unemployment weeks, those deducted amounts will be made available to you again. (This is for PA only. Other states have different rules.)

can a person working in Philadelphia PA get unemployment as a resident in NJ ?
Q. With the ecopnomy the way it is I am nervous about getting laid off. I live in NJ but work in Philadelphia, PA. Would I be elligible for Unemployment if I was let go ?

A. According to the government source link I posted below, "In general, workers are covered by the UI (unemployment insurance) law of the state where the work is performed." "The laws of most states permit employers to elect coverage of workers who perform their services entirely outside the state if they are not covered by any other state or federal UI law. Of the states permitting such elections, residence is required in the state of election in all but Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin." When I lived in Indiana and got laid off in Illinois, I had to apply through Illinois.

Can I draw unemployment from PA when I live in WV?
Q. I have been employed with a company out of PA for the past 3 yrs. Most of my work was done in PA however I reside in WV. I got laid off Friday. Can I apply for unemployment benefits in PA?
Asked by confusedwifey - Sat Oct 24 20:04:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, You will collect from the PA employer but you'll need to apply for unemployment in WV. If you were employed in more than one state at any time during the current base period, you may have the option of: Filing a claim against any state in which you were employed using only the wages from that state, or Filing a claim against any state in which you were employed, using the wages from all states in which you earned wages. State unemployment laws, weekly benefit amounts and eligibility requirements vary between states. Which option is best for you will depend upon the laws in each state that you worked. Information regarding eligibility and award calculations in other states is found on the Web sites of most states. Hope this helps.… [cont.]

Can I represent my friend in an unemployment hearing in PA?
Q. My friend is filing for unemployment in the state of Pennsylvania. I am not a lawyer (I have taken the LSATS and am considering law school however), but I am very well spoken where as he gets very nervous when speaking in public. I have also successfully represented myself infront of an unemployment referee before so he wants me to do it. He cannot afford a lawyer and does not have a union representative. In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania am I allowed to represent him? Any legal precedents to back this up would be very helpful. Thanks in advance :)

How does unemployment work in PA?
Q. How long do you usually get it for? Can every one who was fired get it or are there rules? Do you get 60% of your pay? Does the govt pay you or your old work?
Asked by Jessica - Thu Aug 20 14:48:57 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Unless the employee deliberately acted in a way the he knew would result in termination of his employment, a fired employee can collect Pennsylvania unemployment benefits. In order to prevent an employee from receiving those benefits an employer must prove the employee was guilty of "willful misconduct". If you are fired because of unintentional deficiencies in your work or because your supervisor dislikes you, you can collect benefits. The state looks at how many hours you worked and what your salary was when determining what your weekly pay rate should be. Your weekly benefit rate should equal about one-half of your full-time weekly wage. Your employer can appeal your unemployment claim if he/she feels they had just cause to fire you.… [cont.]

A. The tax rate varies between 2.3% and 10.4% depending on the individual employers history of laying off employees. I suspect any average would be almost meaningless. Here's the formula.
