Has Unemployment Compensation extension been passed again as of April 12th, 2010, in Pennsylvania?
Q. I was told it had been passed again on a national level. I went to Pa. UC page & nothing New there, then I found a story on ABC News from Friday that it was extended for another 30 days, but it'll prob take 20 days for it to be put thru. Still NOTHING specifically on PA.

A. The President signed the extension bill last night (Thursday). It will probably take a few days for state websites to update their information. It was an emergency bill extending application deadlines for a month. Theoretically, a longer term extension (until December 31) will be passed before June.

A. if you are filing NJ as your tax home, more than likely like most states if you are resident of that state you are taxed on income from all sources whether you file a PA non resident or part time depends on the taxability of the unemployment most states it is not taxable in that state

Unemployment Compensation Question - PA?
Q. Way back in the spring of 2009, I got a new job and reported my earnings. I was making too much, so my benefits were cut. I had been using my UC claim for all of two/three months when that happened, so I still had plenty of funds in it. I got a paper saying that I could re-open my claim if my employment status were to change, so long as it fell in the claim's calendar year. (I don't have this paper anymore.) I reopened my existing claim and notified that I had lost my job. My compensation was on hold while unemployment confirmed that with my employer. I have the paper saying that my termination was confirmed. Now today, I had to open a new claim because my old one expired. The guy on the phone put in my employment information TWICE, and my… [cont.]

A. Go to your previous employer and have them clarify when you were in fact fired. This would state that you were fired and that was your last job that they had in record so it should work out. I would recommend talking to the unemployment agency first to see if that would work though

Can I claim unemployment compensation?
Q. I am a pet groomer, and this time of year is really slow, especially with the economy. My income is basically half of what it typically is per week right now. I am paid commission, per pet I groom, no hourly. My company claims that I am an independent contractor, but they take taxes out of my checks, I never filled out a 1099, and they have control over my hours, etc. Can I claim unemployment compensation for the loss of income? I live in PA. Thanks! You don't have to be unemployed to claim it, at least in PA. If you work full time and your hours get cut, then you can claim, so I'm wondering how it works for someone who doesn't get paid hourly.

A. If you have some income, you're not considered unemployed so I don't think you qualify.

Laid off from construction job in PA. Will my unemployment check be affected if I get a small part time job?
Q. My construction job was great pay and my unemployment compensation is thankfully pretty good, but still not enough. I want to get a part time job 10-20 hrs a week at pretty low pay to supplement it. I'm very worried it will make my uc lower if I do. I'm freaked out.

In PA, Can I receive unemployment benefits if I have just... Please read full story, need help!!?
Q. I worked full-time for a company for a few years and I have just been laid off. 3 days AFTER I filed for unemployment I've been offered a part-time job at a different employer in which I only work 10-12 hours per week!! would I still be eligible to receive full or partial unemployment compensation until I find a full-time position? BTW everytime I call the unemployment office there is an automated machine that tells me to leave my SSN and phone number so a person can call me back, well I've been doing that for days now and that action is useless, that's why i am resorting to yahoo questions.

A. First off, I'll answer the second part. Your phone has to be set up to accept anonymous calls. And when they call, the name and number will not come up on your caller ID. Every time that I've done it, someone has called back in under an hour. Everyone I know who has had problems didn't know that their phones were set up to reject anonymous calls. Yes, you will still be eligible for partial benefits. In Pennsylvania, you can make up to 40% of your weekly benefit and not have it reduced. So if your weekly benefit is $300, you can make 40% of that or $120 and not have any reduction in payments. For every dollar you make over in that week, your payment is reduced by a dollar. So you may not see any reduction in benefits or you may see a… [cont.]

Am I eligible for Tier 2 Unemployment Benefits in PA?
Q. I lost my job and received Unemployment Compensation benefits. When that ran out I received EUC Tier 1. I have only 2 more weeks of Tier 1 and still cannot find a job. I am actively looking for work, however I won't be able to find anything in the next 2 weeks. How does Tier 2 work? What is the criteria to qualify? Unemployment is very high in PA so does that mean everyone who collected Tier 1 will get Tier 2?
Asked by co-worker - Sun Jun 28 15:10:40 2009 - United States - 2 Answers - Comments

A. They may or may not send you a letter informing you of an extension. I don't know how PA works. If/when you get that letter, you will have to file for extended benefits. All of the tiers usually have the same requirements (at least the do in KY). When you file for it, they will give you a date that you can request your first Tier 2 check, and you will get a letter in the mail saying how much you are entitled to claim (per week, and total amount, etc). It's just like when you filed for Tier 1, but it doesn't usually take as long for them to process it because they already have all of your info from the first claim.

Filed for unemployment compensation in New Jersey?
Q. I lost the confirmation number, and I filed it a week ago. I still didn't receive the files that they say they'll send, and I have a PA drivers license, so I didn't fill out the NJ drivers license information, which is partly why it's taking so long. First of all, how can I find the confirmation number? Second of all, approximately, how long will it take? (asking on behalf of someone else)
Asked by Jenny - Sat Oct 3 16:28:58 2009 - United States - 1 Answers - Comments

A. To find the confirmation number and the answers to any questions they may have, they need to contact the NJ Unemployment Office. The contact information is on the web site. It might be even better for them to go to the nearest office in person for faster results.

Can I draw unemployment compensation if I was forced to move out of state?
Q. I was living and working in South Carolina for the past three years. Recently I was separated from my employer, and due to such had to pack my things and move back to my parents in Pennsylvania. I did not move 'by choice' but because it wont be long before the bank takes my house and I'd be homeless, even with an unemployment check, I wouldn't have been able to stay in there. So given these circumstances, can I still file for unemployment, and if so would I be doing so through SC or PA?

A. Dear S: Sounds like you are OK if you were laid off. Even if you are found not eligible in the future pay back will be at your ability to pay. Few bucks a week? I would try www.padeptoflabor.gov. Possibly a call to a local office would help. This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided. Unemployment Compensation in PA Question.. What can I do NOW? HELP!?
Q. I posted this earlier and it disappeared.. I was a restaurant manager for the past year. I was demoted (given no reason except sales were low), and then I was fired, 2 weeks later. I was fired because of 2 untrue, slanderous statements. A waitress claimed I was a stripper (I am not) and an escort (I am not). A manager made another statement (untrue, unfounded and without ANY proof) about me, and I lost my job, and no one would tell me why or what happened except that I was insubordinate. I applied for UC, and started receiving benefits. I am a single mom w 2 small children. I had little choice. The restaurant appealed my UC. I received a letter stating, " the service center's decision is reversed, and claim credit for waiting week… [cont.]

Emergency Unemployment Benefits (EUB) in PA.?

I filed this past Sunday for the 2 previous weeks and only received 1 weeks worth benefits this Wednesday. On that same Wednesday i also received a notice in the mail saying i am eligible for Emergency Unemployment Compensation EUC, which i could receive once i file this Sunday for all the weeks i was unemployed. Does this mean i need to file for the past 6 months of just file this Sunday for the past week? Also, will i receive my other weeks worth benefits this Wednesday if I file this Sunday? A. Pennsylvania allows you to be a full-time student and collect unemployment, as long as you would quit going if offered a full-time job. Every state has different laws, and that person probably wasn't familiar with PA law. If the unemployment office is aware, you're okay. When you file this Sunday, file as you normally would. However, just note, that many people I know didn't get their first EUB on the same pay schedule. So don't expect it on Wednesday, but be happy if you get it then. Any money they you owe, you will eventually get.

Unemployment compensation assistance.?
Q. Hello, my father recently lost his job due to no fault of his own. He is a salesman who was earning commission working for a company in OH but the parent company is in PA. The company wanted more sales but in the tough economy there were little to no buyers for this product. He resides in MA and will only have 2 weeks of money coming in from his sales commissions. He is draining his savings account and his house has lost value due to the housing burst and without a job and income he is running out of options and will begin to fall behind on his mortgage and bills. Any suggestions on a course of action? What state would he apply for unemployment benefits in? He is considering taking a loan against or cashing out his 401K. I personally feel… [cont.]

A. Employers pay unemployment to the state in which its employees work. That being said, your father should file for benefits in Mass. As long as he was not fired for gross misconduct, he will be awarded benefits. If he received a pink slip, he should bring it to the nearest unemployment/labor department office and he will begin receiving benefits immediately. If not, he should go and apply for benefits. His former employer will be given the opportunity to protest his receiving benefits at a hearing. If they do not prove misconduct, your father will receive benefits back to the day of his firing. Tell him to hold off on the 401(k). It's a temporary fix that he will be paying for the rest of his life. At his age, he would never recover the… [cont.]
