How do I file state income tax for two different states?
Q. I lived in two different states during the 2009 tax year. On my federal tax, my 2 incomes are obviously combined. For the state forms, they ask you to enter information entered on the federal return. However, shouldn't I only report the income I earned in that particular state for which state withholding tax was withdrawn? If so, how to I make adjustments when it asks for my federal adjusted gross income?
Asked by coolman293472 - Fri Mar 26 18:32:27 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You need to get part-year resident forms for both states (sometimes same as non-resident forms, but instruction differ for part-year vs, non-resident). That should break down how much applies to each state depending upon how long you have been a resident of that state.

What is the specific law which states that marijuana is illegal and where can I find it online?
Q. In a debate over states' rights, the opposer adamantly states that the legality of marijuana is a state issue, and not a federal one. I know this to be false because if it was a state issue, there would be no DEA, californians would not be arrested by federal authorities for its medical use, as well as common sense. However, I can not back this up without the exact clause which states this.
Asked by i33tist - Sat Dec 15 10:53:45 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug. Under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, Federal law in the United States preempts conflicting state and local laws. Personally, I think it should be an issue for the States, and the Federal government should stay out of it. But try to convince the people who make the laws.

A. You're approaching this in the wrong way. The health care bill is Unconstitutional. Period. My question is for all of the Constitutional scholars in the Yahoo! Answers forum: Please point me to line that authorizes the United States Government to enact "universal" health care. "General welfare" does not pertain to medical procedures. One must understand not only the face-value intent of their verbiage, but the spirit of the verbiage. The Founding Fathers were what would be considered today as Libertarians: government-run -anything- is antithetical to the sum of the Constitution. What some of the quarter-wits in this forum are suggesting is that while the Founding Fathers had a non-interference attitude in virtually all aspects of… [cont.]

A. So, what you are trying to say is that you DO NOT want to pay anyone for the use of their office space, to do research on their computers, send and receive faxes on their fax machine, make and receive phone calls on their phones, write up offers with their forms, conduct closings in their conference room? By law, you are not allowed to do business for yourself unless you are a broker. As a real estate sales associate, your legal actions are to be controlled by someone who is more knowledgeable than you. Contracts with a broker can be negotiated. Perhaps you need a broker who will allow you to keep 100% of your commission while charging you for the use of their equipment, forms, etc on a monthly basis. But be warned, in this trying… [cont.]

How do certain states make money if there is no sales tax or state income tax?
Q. I was in New Hampshire over the weekend and it is totally mind boggling to me that the state does not tax your paycheck. On top of that there is no sales tax, unless it's prepared food, and to top it off their gas is cheaper. How does NH stay afloat? Are there other types of taxes that states like New York don't have? I'm thinking there must be a catch to it... (aside from the weather).

A. New Hampshire is the only state without a sales tax and a state income tax. They do have a tax on interest and dividends however, and a business profits tax and business enterprise tax. They also have very high property taxes. They also don't have much for state services, their motto is "New Hampshire, live free or die".

Why would states having more authority than the central government be beneficial to America?
Q. There are so many people that argue that states were given their authority in the constitution and it has gradually been taken from them. I understand that, but why would it be beneficial to America to undo those things now, such as the 17th amendment. I have asked this before and many responses just state why it's not beneficial or that it was set up this way so we should keep it this way. I'm just looking for reasons it would benefit. The more specific, the better. I would like some links, articles, or other places to cite also.

A. When your tyrant is over a thousand miles away (D.C.), it is hard to get his attention. When he is just a couple of hours away (your State Capitol), you can pull his chain when he tries to get too far out of line. As the pool of "constituents" gets larger, YOUR voice tends to not get heard (unless you have some lobbyists). Local government is more accountable to the people than a far away centralized government.

Also educate people in your town about the issue, educate yourself first of course. go to www.normL.org, there is a norm.org site for every state see how you can help them as well. normL is the biggest place to go and the biggest organization on working to reform medical marijuana laws. A. It's usually political. California's official language is English, yet it offers most of its public services in anywhere from 5 - 15 different languages. I think making English the official language was just to make some people feel like they weren't being "invaded."

It seems illegal to me. I have strong political beliefs, but I am setting aside whether or not I am liberal or conservative. You make a good point, Lawrence. A. I understand the honor behind the argument you present; however, since you don't forfeit your First Amendment rights when leaving your home state or district, a Federal Law would most likely be unconstitutional. I do not think, however, that would prevent the states themselves from enacting state laws about such concerns. Edit: I 100% agree, that's why I think a state law is the best way to go about doing what you suggest.
